Advocating for a nuclear-free future and sustainable energy

At VšĮ Ekokoncepcija, we are fundamentally committed to an anti-nuclear position and the realization of a nuclear-free future for Central and Eastern Europe.

We stand firmly against the expansion and continued reliance on nuclear energy, as well as the militarization and weaponization of nuclear technologies.

Decades of regional experience — from the Chornobyl catastrophe to current cross-border reactor hazards and unresolved nuclear waste burdens — demonstrate that nuclear energy is inherently dangerous, non-transparent, and incompatible with genuine sustainability.

True climate action and energy sovereignty can only be achieved through safe, decentralized, 100% renewable solutions, rather than trading carbon emissions for radioactive risks.

Key initiatives and focus areas:

  • Anti-nuclear campaigning and cross-border oversight: We campaign against the construction, operation, and lifetime extension of high-risk nuclear power plants across the region. Our team provides independent public scrutiny of transboundary nuclear projects, challenges non-transparent licensing and stress-test processes, and exposes environmental and safety violations to international bodies and the wider public.
  • Civic radiation monitoring and risk awareness: We empower citizens with independent radiation monitoring tools, including community dosimeter networks and open-source data mapping. We counter state-sponsored nuclear promotion, raise awareness about long-term radioactive waste storage risks, and equip local communities with factual, verifiable information on radiation hazards.
  • Chornobyl commemoration and countering nuclear greenwashing: Every year, Ekokoncepcija co-organizes transnational informational and cultural campaigns dedicated to the lessons of the Chornobyl disaster and the urgent need to demilitarize energy infrastructure. We actively challenge attempts to label nuclear energy as “clean” or “green” in regional and international climate forums.
  • Just transition to 100% renewables: We demonstrate that a nuclear-free energy system is not only necessary, but technically and economically viable. In partnership with independent energy experts and civil society networks, we develop and promote roadmaps for energy efficiency, grid modernization, and a complete shift to solar, wind, and community-owned energy.
